Twinbrook Decries Loss of Only Dunkin’, Demands DD Equity

TWINBROOK, MD — Residents of Rockville’s Twinbrook neighborhood were left stunned last week after their only Dunkin’ closed its doors forever, plunging the community into what local activists call a textbook case of systemic DD inequity.

Twinbrook civic leaders wasted no time mapping the disparity. “Let’s look at the data,” said Twinbrook Citizens Association president Joe Runson, thrusting his phone forward with the Dunkin’ app open. “Olney has three. Three! Aspen Hill has two within a single block. Rockville Pike has a pair so close you could hit them with a half-eaten Boston Kreme. And Twinbrook? Our only Dunkin' disappears in the night, leaving a void as cavernous as the dead duckpin bowling alley underneath it.”

Residents were especially indignant upon learning that the Dunkin' at Randolph and Veirs Mill, the one crowned “Most Ghetto Dunkin’ in Montgomery County” by Bethesda Magazine, was moving to a 24-hour schedule. Others said it was a blow to the community's self-esteem, referencing the nearby East Gude Drive location, tucked between a cement plant and a self-storage warehouse. “The industrial corridor gets full coffee parity,” Runson continued, “but Twinbrook is left to choose between McDonalds and 7-Eleven? It's DD oppression!”

Elected officials quickly joined the chorus. “If we deserve one, then Twinbrook deserves at least two,” declared Glenmont Councilmember Vidalia Marylonjón. Briggs-Chaney Mayor Lotta Ottos agreed, adding, “We were flabbergasted to learn we are more entitled than Twinbrook.”

DD equity organizers are demanding a comprehensive county-wide framework that redistributes Dunkin’ resources according to census-tract need. “Every neighborhood deserves equal access to $7 oat-milk cold brews and baconless bacon-avocado toast,” said lead activist Ash Brown. “We refuse to be forced to drive an entire mile to Rockville Pike like some kind of caffeinated carpetbagger. We want our own drive-thru. And we want the app to auto-detect Twinbrook as a priority DD equity zone.”

County Executive Marc Elrich pledged to form a DD Equity Task Force to study disparities and recommend restorative fried dough strategies. “History will not look kindly on the era of unequal access to 1,000-calorie Triple Mocha Frozen Coffee,” Elrich said while sipping tepid gas-station brew in solidarity with Twinbrook protestors at a memorial.
