Van Grack Holds Title in Rockville Jowl Competition

ROCKVILLE, Md. — In a contest marked by the fiercest face-off since he created it in 2023, Adam Van Grack doggedly secured a narrow but decisive victory on Monday in the City of Rockville's annual “Best Jowls” competition, marking his fourth consecutive victory.

This year’s challenge came with a new level of intensity, as Dare, the Rockville City Police Department’s new bloodhound, was unleashed as a formidable contender and absolute crowd favorite.

Jowl Judge Jackson assesses Dare’s impressive wattle.

Dare delivered a strong showing, particularly in the opening rounds, where his jowls displayed pendulous volume and bounce. But in the closing moments, Van Grack, with tenacious instincts, pulled out a brilliantly sardonic grin, giving him an extra half-inch jowl reach.

A Bone of Contention

Angry crowds let out an audible gasp, followed by boos, when Jowl Judge Jackson declared Van Grack the winner in a controversial split decision. “This was a classic title defense,” Jackson said. “There were loose-cheeked grimaces, unpredictable jiggles, and a lot of spray coming off Dare. But Adam held his jawline, and when it mattered, he had the chops to hold the title.”

A group of disgruntled semi-finalists hastily convened a press conference to allege bias in judging.

Van Grack, reached for comment, remained modest about extending his streak. “There were some strong salivary surges,” he said. “Dare brought it. You just try to see past the spritz and hold your line.”

Later that evening, the top medalists’ camaraderie was evident as their jubilant jowls lapped up a quiet dinner at Il Pizzico. Van Grack, leaning in with a steady, reassuring smile, was overheard telling Dare he was still “Rockville's best, best boy.”
