Moderately MOCO Slammed for 'Sell Out' Superintendent Interview
Followers of Moderately MOCO, the popular Montgomery County news and discussion website, lashed out at the media giant this week after it posted an interview with Montgomery County Public School Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor that failed to address obvious controversies. Even some of the site's most loyal followers cried foul, claiming publisher Jason Makstein “sold out” by avoiding tough questions.
“Jason Makstein, this is a breaking point,” said former super-fan Steve Sauergrapes. "By continuing to platform Dr. Taylor in a way that normalizes his wardrobe, Moderately MOCO is no longer acting as an independent voice for the moderately-layered community. Many of us see this as enabling, not reporting. I’m done with your bland, Kohl-inspired Polo knockoffs and will be encouraging others to step away as well.”
Those sentiments were almost universal among the more than 180,000 commenters. “We never found out why he was wearing so many shirts. That's like Bannon level shirts. Like what the f**k is up with that?” demanded sleeveless reader Cami Campbell.
Things got really heated when perineal political candidate Robin Ficker entered the fray with an insightful, carefully crafted 8,000-word thesis on the hypocrisy and waste of Taylor's multiple shirt collars, which Makstein dismissed as spam.
“This isn’t spam—it’s directly related and ongoing. Taylor wore five layers to the Forest Oak Middle School science fair! Five!!! And it was 91 degrees in that gymnasium. It’s frustrating to see Moderately MOCO giving Dr. Taylor a platform that makes it seem reasonable to wear a t-shirt, a polo, an Oxford, a cardigan, and a sports coat when so many in the community are still struggling to look good on Insta with just one or two layers,” Sauergrapes commented under every Moderately MOCO post since 2009.
After 48-hours of non-stop heat, Makstein finally released a statement on social media:
“I want to provide some context on our recent interview with Dr. Taylor.
That conversation was recorded on January 23, when it was in the teens and our streets were covered in snowcrete.
I understand that the tone of the interview may not reflect how much it has warmed up over the past two months. In light of the summer-like temperatures today, I recognize that this look may feel out of season to some viewers.
We will continue to share Dr. Taylor's multi-layered interview as originally recorded, regardless the fact that I only wear a single layer 365 days a year.”
Editor’s Notes:
1) We know the difference between perineal and perennial. Please don’t send letters.
2) Certain images in this article may have been altered. Dr. Taylor was only wearing three collared layers during the interview, plus at least one t-shirt, for a total of only four visible layers.
